I want to beat the big imposter by my way to confidence.
Other Voices, Same Fear
Open a page some stranger wrote
in some quiet, doubting year.
Find the worry that they noted,
find that you are not the only here.
A poet too once felt this small,
once stared at blank and empty light.
Their words still stand against the wall
of every long, uncertain night.
Borrow their courage for a while,
let their rhythm steady yours.
Let their honesty, their style,
open up some inner doors.
You are not alone in this.
The shelf is full of those who felt
exactly what you can't dismiss —
and still they wrote, and still they dealt.
"The beauty of the impostor syndrome is you vacillate between extreme egomania, and a complete feeling of: 'I'm a fraud! Oh god, they're on to me! I'm a fraud!' So you just try to ride the egomania when it comes and enjoy it, and then slide through the idea of fraud."
